📌 Abstract:
This lecture challenges the traditional view that the cerebellum is irrelevant to consciousness. Recent evidence shows that the cerebellum contributes to both felt experiences (e.g., perception, memory, emotions, pain, illusions) and levels of consciousness (sleep–wake cycle, epilepsy, anesthesia, disorders of consciousness). Rather than serving only motor functions, the cerebellum acts as a modulator of consciousness and is involved in attention, social cognition, and psychiatric conditions. The talk proposes expanding the standard NCC framework toward Neural Modulators of Consciousness (NMC) to better capture how brain mechanisms shape conscious experience.
