講題:The Mental Lexicon As A Cognitive Network: Implications for language processing
講者:Dr. Cynthia Siew (Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, National University of Singapore)
摘要:Cognitive representations are central to theoretical and computational accounts of behavioral and language phenomena in many areas of cognitive psychology and psycholinguistics. In this talk I will demonstrate how the tools of network science can be used to quantify and represent cognitive and linguistic representations as networks of phonological, orthographic, and semantic relationships. I will present results from psycholinguistic and computational experiments, as well as large-scale analyses of megastudies and linguistic norms, that demonstrate how language-related processes are influenced by the network structure of the phonological mental lexicon. The research presented will highlight the importance of considering both the roles of lexicon structure and cognitive mechanism to account for language processing.

講者簡介:
Cynthia Siew is currently Assistant Professor of Psychology at the National University of Singapore. She was previously a Research Fellow at the University of Warwick, UK, from 2017 to 2019. She graduated from the University of Kansas, USA, in 2017, with a PhD in Cognitive Psychology. Her research focuses on using network science methods to quantify cognitive and lexical representations in the mental lexicon and semantic memory. Through a combination of experimental and computational approaches, she examines how the structure of cognitive systems influences lexical processes that operate in those systems, and the development of mental lexicon and semantic memory across the lifespan.
