【Open PhD position in DFG project at RWTH Aachen University, Aachen】
We have an open research associate position to fill at the laboratory for Cognitive and Experimental
Psychology at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. Salary will be according to TVL-
13; 75%. It is a fixed-term position for three years and is intended for candidates seeking
a PhD. Starting date is approximately April, 1, 2021.
The position is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is part of a collaborative
project with Prof. Shulan Hsieh (University of Tainan, Taiwan) in the context of a binational
call for joint projects of DFG (Germany) and MOST (Taiwan).
The project aims at exploring age-related differences in crossmodal processing in the
domains of attention, S-R mapping selection, and action preparation. The german part will be
led by Dr. Denise N. Stephan and Prof. Dr. Iring Koch and will focus on behavioral measures,
but there are options for collaborating with the companion project in Taiwan, which focuses on
cognitive-neuroscience measures (ERP & fMRI).
The successful candidate is required to work on the aforementioned research project, in
tasks ranging from the design and implementation of testing protocols, to the collection and
analysis of empirical (behavioral [reaction times] and electrophysiological [EEG]) data, to the
writing of original research articles published in peer-reviewed international journals. In addition,
the position requires the regular participation in internal colloquiums with international guests as
well as the participation in international scientific meetings.
Candidates should have a completed Master’s degree in Psychology as well as expertise
in experimental psychology and interest in cognitive psychology. We expect good knowledge of
statistics, programming experiences (e.g., with PsychoPy), experience with SPSS, and fluent
English skills. German is not mandatory but would be useful.
