演講摘要:
Everyone can speak, but not everyone can write—that is, compose longer stretches of discourse. All authors agree: writing is difficult. It is, in fact, a battle occurring on several fronts: conceptual, linguistic, and rhetorical, with all three being interconnected. Success in one area does not guarantee victory in the entire battle, as true triumph requires mastery in all three. I will show in my talk what these battlefields consist of and how to win the battle. Writing requires authors to perform multiple tasks: generating ideas, evaluating them, integrating them into a coherent whole (text plan or outline), adding cohesive devices (links), and presenting all
of this in proper form. The number of tasks is often overwhelming, leading to blockage, multitasking, forgetfulness, and various distractions. Moreover, other factors may impede writing:
• Lack of Meta-Knowledge and Control: Not knowing what to do when, or when to stop.
• Lack of Clear Thoughts: Misjudging the quality (clarity) of the author's initial ideas.
• Lack of Critical Thinking: Good writing requires clear thinking, which depends on a strong understanding of the topic.
• Lack of Knowledge: Inability to create a good outline.
Since these factors increase stress and affect the quality of writing, we must find ways to reduce cognitive load while increasing control. This is what I aim to achieve with the ecosystem I will present in my talk
